Founded by the Lopez family of the Guelaguetza Restaurant in Los Angeles
Por Oaxaca's mission is to bring provisional housing to indigenous communities affected by the 9/7/17 8.2 Oaxaca earthquake.
All of our transactions are made public | Por Oaxaca is not yet a registered 501(c)(3)
Our provisional homes are currently being built in Asuncion Ixtaltepec. They all have cement footing and a foundation made of cement blocks. The beams are of a local wood from the huanacaxtle tree 🌳, one of the strongest we’ve seen. The walls are made of pine, which is affordable and durable. The ceilings are made of laminate and put on on a slight angle to help with the rains.
Our goal is for these provisional homes to last up to 10 years.
On September 7th, an 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck Southern Mexico. The Isthmus region of Oaxaca was deeply affected, causing many indigenous communities to lose their homes and livelihood.
After visiting Asuncion Ixtaltepec, we realized that long-term help was going to be vital to rebuild this community.
Transparency is a priority to us. As fundraising continues, we will be updating our site. We will also be sharing every expense made through this process on this site
Our family will be personally traveling to Oaxaca to oversee the building of the first set of provisional housing. All updates of our efforts will be shared via social media and Blog
[Our family will match the first $5k raised through our YouCaring Fundpage. ]
