VISITING IXTALTEPEC

Our family took a few friends to Asuncion Ixtaltepec on the weekend of October 13th to meet the families who have received homes so far. We saw the 7th house go up and heard the stories of those who lost everything in the earthquake. It was devastating to see the destruction of the town, 80% of the homes are gone.
As we were walking around the town, we saw women watch her home being hauled away by tractors. Her heart and spirit were shattered and tears overflowed everywhere. She told us her mom was very sick, and needed some sort of shelter to help her survive. Her mom's name was María Toledo Rios, she died a couple days after our conversation. We finished her home last Thursday, and her daughter was able to host her wake in the home we built, per the towns tradition. She sent this picture to us.
